How do we set UTL_FILE_DIR in spfile
How do we set UTL_FILE_DIR in spfile to a new value as we cannot shutdown our DB , how can we do this. Any suggestions.

How do we set UTL_FILE_DIR in spfile to a new value as we cannot shutdown our DB , how can we do this.Alhough the parameter is changed to new valuee but it is not replicating when i give show parameter UTL_FILE_DIR.

I don't believe UTL_FILE_DIR can be changed without bouncing the database
The good news:
You shouldn't be using UTL_FILE_DIR. You should be creating DIRECTORY objects (i.e. CREATE DIRECTORY ...) and using those for file I/O. Not only does that not require rebooting your system, it's substantially more secure because you can grant different users different privileges on different directories.

- I don't honestly know. I would expect that you could just pass in the name of the directory object rather than the path-- that how it works with UTL_FILE. However, all the documentation seems to talk specifically about UTL_FILE_DIR. I would tend to guess that the documentation is just old and hadn't been updated, but perhaps there is something special about UTL_FILE_DIR in the context of LogMiner... That seems unlikely to me, but I can't rule it out.
If it turns out that you have to set UTL_FILE_DIR, you would have to bounce the database.
